Well summer is in full swing here in Edmonton, and you may be thinking of doing something with your landscaping. Here are some great tips to make for a great landscape transformation.

The first thing you need to do is to find out what you use your yard for. Landscaping in Edmonton is not as limited as you would think. Spend some time in your yard, do you Entertain, or dine in your yard; are you going to be sitting around a fire on those chilly Alberta nights; do you have kids that need space to play? Ask yourself what you want your yard to do for you and landscape around that.

Once you decide the essentials for your landscaping, set yourself a budget. Keep in mind quality when deciding where to spend money. Hardscaping is expensive, so make sure to set a good portion of budget for paving stones and pathways for your entertaining areas. Also keep in mind that large trees and shrubs will eat away your budget. Landscaping doesn’t have to break you so don’t go overboard. You can save money by skipping out on things like sprinkler systems, or getting art and accessories at one of many Edmonton flea markets or garage sales. If you can’t stay within budget maybe consider doing some landscaping in another year.

Next, put your ideas together. Maybe even draw up a landscape plan. A good design will make it much easier to actually do the work (especially if it is to scale). When you are doing your landscaping keep in mind you can’t enjoy your landscaping with out space for people.

You can create different spaces in your yard by using borders, or rocks. You can even make vertical dividers with hedges, vines, lattice and planters.

Overlooked aspects in a lot of landscaping are the accessories. Add art or mirrors to your walls. Put colorful vines on your fence, I really like snap peas, fast growing, great smell and lots of blooms. Landscape lights and hanging lights are another great way to add to outdoor living spaces in your yard.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas so you can create a landscaped area you can enjoy with our short Edmonton Summer.
